The School Council met with Mrs Foster, our head cook, to discuss school meals. The school menu will change after half term commencing Monday 20th February. The new menus will run over a four week cycle and will commence with week 3. Please see all menus attached for your information. We are sure you will agree that they look very appetising. For those of you wishing to pay in advance for school meals, the cost will be £55.50 (30 days @ £1.85 per day) for the next half term. Please make cheques payable to ‘CBED School Meals’ and put your cheque guarantee number on the reverse of the cheque together with your child’s name and class. If your child has ‘Pizza Fridays’ the cost for the next half term will be £11.10 (6 Fridays @ £1.85).
Emergency Closure of Schools
In the rare event of extreme weather conditions (eg: heavy snowfall) across the whole of the City, the LA may, as previously agreed, issue central advice to close all schools. A central decision on whether advice to schools should recommend whether to close or stay open will be made by the Strategic Director-Children, Young People & Families in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Families. Any such advice affecting all schools will be made by 6.45 a.m. at the latest. The advice will then be announced through Heart FM - 100.7 FM, Radio WM - 95.6 FM, BRMB - 96.4 FM, and also on the BGFL home page.
It is accepted that a minority of schools will not be able to comply with central advice to remain open because of factors unique to the school, e.g. burst pipes, heating failure or because of particular physical difficulties of the school site. In such circumstances it will be for Mrs Barratt to make the decision. In either event parents will be informed via the broadcast media as mentioned above and a school text.
World Book Day
We are celebrating World Book Day on Friday 2nd March 2012. World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) reading! On Thursday 1st March we will be celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. So, get your thinking caps on and decide which book character you will come to school dressed as & which book you will choose to share with your classmates.
West Midlands Police Notice
As you are aware inconsiderate parking around the school and in particular on zig zag and yellow lines can be dangerous. Police Officers and PCSO’s will be patrolling around school to enforce regulations. Please see attached for further information.
Health for Life
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, Life Education Centres West Midlands have been working with children and families for 20 years to help educate about healthy lifestyle choices. They have successfully delivered Family Learning Health workshops in schools across the West Midlands. Life Education Centres have recently developed a series of new Key Stage 2 Family Learning workshops for Year 6 pupils around the topics of ‘Growing Up and Relationships’ and for Year 3 pupils the topic is ‘Healthy Way’. These workshops include interactive, fun activities for both parents and children to work on together.
Our School has been very lucky in being selected to be part of the pilot and hope that the parents/carers of our children here at Bournville Junior School will be excited about being part of trialling the new resources, which can help support the school curriculum and the children as they grow and develop.
We would like to remind you the workshops will take place on the following dates:
Ø Year 3 - Thursday 8th March
Ø Year 6 - Friday 16th March (a.m. only)
The invitations and timings for these workshops have been sent out via your child.
